Balsam fir absolute, also known as Abies balsamea, is extracted from the balsam resin found in the bark of this particular fir tree.

Method: Absolute is obtained from concrete by re-extraction with a solvent using pure alcohol (ethanol) in which the unwanted waxes are poorly dissolved. Absolut can also undergo molecular distillation, which will remove the last non-volatile particles.
