Floral waters, also known as hydrolates or herbal waters, are the products obtained during the steam distillation of plants to produce essential oils. Steam distillation uses water that is passed through the plant and heated to extract the essential oil. As a result of this process, water vapor is formed, which condenses and collects together with the essential oil.
Floral waters have delicate aromas similar to those of the plant from which they are produced, but in a weaker concentration than essential oils. They contain hydrosols and small amounts of essential oils, which gives them a light aromatic and healing power. Although they contain lower concentrations of the active ingredients compared to essential oils, floral waters still have beneficial properties and are used in a variety of fields, including cosmetics, perfumery, aromatherapy and skin care.
Floral waters have a soothing, cooling and hydrating effect on the skin. They can be used as a facial toner, to moisturize the skin, to aid circulation, and as a face and body freshener. Some of the most popular types of floral waters are rose water, lavender water, witch hazel water, and chamomile water, but there are others derived from different plants.
Floral water is an herbal extract obtained by distillation of various plants. It may sound confusing, but I will dispel any confusion with just one example - the familiar rose water. However, it is by no means the only one of its kind, but only one of dozens, even hundreds of floral waters.
Hydrosols and hydrolats, or so-called floral waters, are a byproduct of the essential oil distillation process.
Unlike essential oils, natural fragrances also contain water-soluble plant components. The concentration of aromatic elements with a therapeutic effect determines their complete solubility in water and homogeneity of the solution.
High-quality hydrosols are those that are not by-products in the process of obtaining essential oils, but are produced using a special technology. In most cases, these waters have a pleasant and fresh aroma. In the process of distillation, microparticles of essential oils enter the water, giving the distillate a certain aroma. Hydrosol usually contains at least 0.02% essential oil.

Natural aromatic waters are wonderful remedies whose properties have been the subject of various studies. The reason for this is the increasing level of their consumption. They are less concentrated than their corresponding essential oils, which allows them to be used as finished cosmetic products. They work great after a bath or shower, can be added to baths - nourish the skin, refresh and tone the whole body. Take them with you on the road - they will be useful to clean your face and refresh, get rid of mosquitoes and other insect bites. Floral waters protect the skin and hair from the harmful effects of the atmosphere - sunlight, wind, low temperatures; prevent the appearance of wrinkles, stimulate hair growth. They help in removing some cosmetic defects - freckles, comedones, etc. They can be used to flavor clothes and bedding, to freshen the air in rooms. Their aroma affects the emotional state, encourages, relieves mental and physical stress, improves tone and refreshes.
